Solar vents aka … “time to cut”
The time has come!! Time to cut…the first hole in the roof!! Oh my goodness – daunting!
First we figured out where the solar vents were going – one above the kitchen and one above the bathroom. These fans/vents are completely solar powered and can be switched on and off from inside, to keep hot air and cooking smells out of the van and to minimise moisture. We measured out a template, cut a hole in the insulation and drilled the first pilot hole. ARGHHH – daylight!! Then, up onto the roof to jigsaw out the hole. A few screws and some Sikaflex later and both vents were installed! The first one took around 1 1/2 hours, as we first made the hole too small, not realising that the vents taper out. The second took only around 30 minutes!
