Insulation, insulation, insulation!!

Today we finished the insulation! So, we have the Trade Select wall wrap which is a silver foil heat barrier with built in breather as the first layer on the walls, then a layer of Earth Wool rating 2 over the top of that. Earth Wool is fully eco product made of recycled glass bottles, which is spun into a wool bat. This will really help keep the heat out in Summer and the warmth in in Winter.

There has been debate on whether or not to put a vapour barrier over the top of the Earth Wool before putting our walls up. Some people say this can hold in moisture, which will, in time, create rust and corrosion, so we’ve opted for no vapour barrier.

Then, onto the ceiling. We chose Ametalin Thermal Break 8, rating 2. This has 3 layers to it – aluminium foil, 4mm high density XPE foam and a further vapour barrier layer. This particular product is specifically designed for steel framed installation. It is fibre free, non toxic, non allergenic and extra heavy duty. This product will also be used as our flooring insulation.
