Hatch day – Take 2!!
Ok so today is the D-Day!! Weather was cloudy in the morning, but that soon passed over into sunshine and weather is looking fine for the next 4 days. No excuses, it’s hatch day!
First, to cut a 50cm x 70cm (irreversible!) hole in Lucy’s roof!!! We have seriously been putting this task off for months for fear of stuffing it up!
This time we measured, considered, measured, brainstormed, measured, measured again, marked it out…then cut! YAHHHH we have a hole in our roof!!! Never did I think I would feel so damn excited about a hole in the roof and being able to see sunshine from inside the van!
We then considered some black foamy type spacer to “even” out the ridges in the roof, as there are 4 of them front and back of where the hatch will sit. It just made the hatch sit up so high, that we thought we’d take a risk and go without. What a great risk it was, as the hatch sits so perfectly even flat, level and happy up on the ridges. Now for Sikaflex….and by Sikaflex…I mean go sick with the Sikaflex!!
Frank up the ladder, me underneath, we guide the Sikaflexed hatch into place and like a glove, she looks amazing! Now for some smoothing, a little more Sikaflex around the sides, edges, underneath and so far so good!
Next will be some timber underneath to pop the base in and then we can finally finish the ceiling panelling.
Yay to us!!
Oh….and I finished painting the bath/dining table top…but that’s not nearly as exciting as the hatch 😉
